Anodised Hubs
Anodising Hubs
We get a lot of questions about anodising hubs, and the answer to all enquiries normally comes down to the following;
- Cast/stock hubs - due to the nature of the alloys used, these tend to be only suitable for black anodising. Advanced Anodising is able to polish these to remove the cast lines and give the hubs a shiny metallic surface.
- Billet hubs - These are typically 6061 alloy and can be anodised with exellent results. If these are already anodised but you would like a different colour then Advanced Anodising can re-anodise your billet hub to the anodised colour you require.
Stock hubs
As you can see you standard stock hubs have a rough cast surface and also those un-attractive casting lines.

Advanced Anodising Ltd have a specially designed jig that allows them to 'turn' down the hub so that the casting lines and rough surface is removed. We are then able to polish the hub to a very high gloss finish. The photo below shows the hub first shown above after 'turning' and polishing.

Lastly if required, the hubs can be anodised. There are some things to be aware off, as the hubs are made from a cast alloy these may not anodise well and are typically only suitable for a black dyed finish. Although this can still result in shades from dark grey to black - it just depend on the alloy mix. The anodising may also highlight some porosity, which is a common feature of castings and are effectively small pockets/bubbles of air trapped iduring the casting process. As you can see a very high standard of finsih can still be achieved.
